Celebration of Life for Murder Victim Lee Person "Diamond", Local Transgender Person

Family and friends of Lee Person, better known throughout the community as “Diamond”, will be joined by members of the local and national transgender community to celebrate the life of one of DC’s well known transgender members.

“Diamond” was brutally murdered inside her apartment last week in the 3900 block of Kansas Avenue, N.W.  Based on all accounts, the victim is believed to have been beaten with a hammer, and then suffocated, as her head was left in a plastic bag.  We are now asking the question whether this crime can or should be described as a domestic or hate crime.

Transgender women continue to be murdered with horrifying frequency in Washington, DC.  Nationally, a transgender woman is murdered on an average approximately once per month.

During arraignment on Monday January 8, 2007, Preston Logan was officially charged with First Degree Murder and held without bond.  A status hearing was scheduled for January 23, 2007 at 10:00 a.m.

Here are the funeral details.
