The Department of Mental Health Training Institute and the Mayor's Office of GLBT Affairs are pleased to present an introduction to working with transgender patients. This training will address issues facing transgendered individuals and the community resources available to these populations. Topics include the procedure for changing gender designation, sex reassignment, and other concepts associated with transgenderism. Participants will learn about standards of care which provide professional consensus regarding the psychiatric, psychological, medical, and surgical management of gender identity disorders. Professionals may use this document to understand the parameters within which they may offer assistance to those with these conditions.
