Director of District’s LGBT Affairs Office Announces New Staff Member

(Washington, DC) Darlene R. Nipper, director of the Office of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Affairs today named M’Bwende N. Anderson the program coordinator in that office.

“M’Bwende Anderson is a nationally-known community activist with extensive experience organizing and training lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or questioning (LGBTQ) youth leaders and community members on both local and national levels,” said Nipper. “M’Bwende’s addition to our staff is another step forward as our office looks to better serve the District of Columbia’s LGBT community. Accordingly, M’Bwende’s primary focus will be on shaping LGBTQ youth initiatives and transgender community programs.”

Below is a biography for M’Bwende N. Anderson.

M’Bwende N. Anderson
Program Coordinator, Office of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Affairs

Results-oriented visionary M’Bwende Anderson brings over 10 years of executive leadership, education and training, and community advocacy experience to the District of Columbia government. Along with M’Bwende’s work in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or questioning (LGBTQ) community, she has been an advocate for those affected by HIV/AIDS and for the health and well-being of youth.

M’Bwende’s commitment to building coalitions, particularly between youth and adults, across a multiplicity of identities and sub-populations will be a tremendous asset to the Mayor’s office. Anderson’s extraordinary track record for benchmark-setting growth and impact throughout the national, regional and local LGBTQ arenas has brought her to prominence on a national level.
