Office of LGBT Affairs Announces First-Ever Transgender Career Fair

(Washington, DC)  Darlene Nipper, director of the Office of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Affairs (LGBT), announced today the hosting of the District of Columbia’s first-ever transgender career fair.* The career fair is designed to provide knowledge and support to transgender community members seeking employment within the District of Columbia Department of Health (DOH).

"We are very excited about this historic event,” said Nipper. “We know that this event will provide transgender community members with critical information regarding career employment opportunities and this is a great step to ensuring that our transgender brothers and sisters have an equal opportunity to positively impact the effectiveness of the Department of Health.”

The event will be held Saturday, July 22 from 11 am to 4 pm in the main lobby of the Reeves Center at 2000 14th Street, NW. Highlights of the agenda include employment readiness workshops focused on resume writing, completing the DC 2000 application, understanding ranking factors involved in the application process, and tips on dressing for success. Employment pre-screening will be available to interested participants. Potential applicants are asked to bring a photo ID, and if available, two copies of their current resume.

The Transgender Job Fair is being sponsored by DOH, DC Office of Personnel (DCOP), the Office of LGBT Affairs, the Office of Councilmember David Catania and the Office of Councilmember Jim Graham.
