Traffic Advisory: Street Closings and Parking Restrictions for St. Patrick’s Day Parade and St. Patrick’s Day 8K Race

The Metropolitan Police Department wishes to advise the public that the St. Patrick Day’s Parade and 8K Race are scheduled to be held on Sunday, March 15, 2009. In order to facilitate these events, no vehicular traffic will be allowed and parking will be restricted on several streets on the day of the events.

St. Patrick’s Day 8K Race street closures:

Street closures in some areas will begin as early as 5:30 am and end at approximately noon.

•           Pennsylvania Avenue NW, between 14th Street and 3rd  Street NW

•           Constitution Avenue NW, between 3rd Street and Louisiana Avenue NW

•           Louisiana Avenue NW, between Constitution Avenue and D Street NW

•           D Street, between Louisiana NW and 1st Street NE

•           1st Street NE, between C Street and Columbus Circle

•           3rd Street, between E Street SW and Constitution Avenue NW

•           2nd Street, between Independence Avenue and E St SW

•           200 block of E Street SW

•           Independence Avenue, between 3rd and 7th Streets SW

St. Patrick’s Day Parade street closures:

From approximately 11 am to 4 pm

•           Constitution Avenue NW, between 7th Street and 17th Street NW will be closed to vehicular traffic and parking will be restricted.

•           Additionally, streets that intersect the parade route will be closed as the parade

            passes.

Parking restrictions will be in effect from 7 am to 5 pm at the following locations:

•           Constitution Ave NW, between 6th Street and 15th Street NW

•           C Street NW, between 17th Street and 18th Street NW

•           D Street NW, between 17th Street and 18th Street NW

•           Pennsylvania Avenue NW, between 3rd Street and 7th Street NW

•           Virginia Avenue NW, between Constitution Avenue and 18th Street NW

•           7th Street NW, between Independence Avenue and Constitution Avenue NW

Motorists should be alerted to these restrictions and expect possible traffic delays while traveling in the areas of these event.
