Traffic Advisory for the National Cherry Blossom Parade and Japanese Street Festival

This weekend, parking restrictions and street closings will be in effect to facilitate the National Cherry Blossom Parade and the Japanese Street Festival in downtown Washington.

JAPANESE STREET FESTIVAL

From 11:00 pm on Friday, April 3, 2009 until 9:00 pm on Saturday, April 4, 2009, the following streets will be closed to vehicular traffic and parking restrictions will be in effect:

  • Pennsylvania Avenue between 10th Street and 14th Street, NW
  • Streets from the north and south that intersect Pennsylvania Avenue between 10th and 14th Street, NW

Parking Restrictions
From 11:00 pm on Friday, April 3, 2009 until 9:00 pm on Saturday, April 4, 2009, vehicles will not be allowed to park along Pennsylvania Avenue, NW from 10th Street to 14th Street, NW.

NATIONAL CHERRY BLOSSOM PARADE

The route for the parade is westbound on Constitution Avenue, NW from 7th Street to 17th Street, NW.  To facilitate the parade, which is scheduled to begin at 9:45 am, the following streets will be closed to vehicular traffic from 5:30 am until 3 pm on Saturday, April 4, 2009:

  • 7th Street between Independence Avenue, SW and Constitution Avenue, NW
  • Constitution Avenue between 6th Street and 23rd Street, NW

Parking Restrictions
From 5 am until 3 pm, vehicles will not be allowed to park on the following streets:

  • 4th Street from Independence Avenue to Constitution Avenue, NW
  • 7th Street from Independence Avenue to Constitution Avenue, NW
  • Constitution Avenue from 4th Street to 23rd Street, NW
  • Virginia Avenue from Constitution Avenue to 21st Street, NW
  • 19th Street from Constitution Avenue to E Street, NW
  • 20th Street from Constitution to E Street, NW

Motorists should expect delays if operating in the area of these events. Street closings can also be subject to change without prior notice due to prevailing conditions. The department wishes to take this opportunity to thank the public for their cooperation and understanding in this matter.

Update, 4/3/07: CHERRY BLOSSOM 10-MILE RUN
The Cherry Blossom 10-Miler on the morning of Sunday, April 5 will require traffic restrictions on the Memorial Bridge, streets around the Tidal Basin and East Potomac Park, and portions of Rock Creek Parkway. Get complete details at www.cherryblossom.org/.
