Traffic Advisory for Bike DC Neighborhood Ride

The Bike DC Neighborhood ride will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2009.  To facilitate this event, vehicular traffic restrictions must be imposed on all the noted streets downtown, Washington, DC between the hours of 7:00 am and 12:00 pm on the day of the race.

 

There will be two locations where motorists can cross the route at the officer’s direction when bikers are not present.  The locations are as follow:

 

  •  34th Street, NW and Garfield Road, NW
  •   21st Street, NW and P Street, NW

The participants will ride their bikes as follows:

  • Constitution Ave. at 9th Street NW (eastbound) National Archives
  • Right turn 2nd Maryland NE Capitol Hill
  • Right turn on 1st Street NE Supreme Court Building
  • Left turn on Constitution Ave. NE (westbound) U. S. Capitol
  • Right turn on 15th St. NW
  • Left turn on Pennsylvania Ave. NW White House
  • Right turn on 21st St. NW
  • Left turn (westbound) on Massachusetts Ave. NW Embassy Row
  • Right turn on 30th St. NW
  • Left turn on Fulton St. NW
  • Right turn on 34th St. NW
  • Right turn on Klingle Rd. NW
  • Left turn on Woodley Rd. NW

Rest Stop at Twin Oaks Estate Twin Oaks Estate

  • Left turn at 34th St. NW National Cathedral
  • Left turn on Massachusetts Ave. NW Naval Observatory/Vice President’s House
  • Right turn on 21st St. NW Embassy Row
  • Right turn on Whitehurst Freeway (westbound lanes)
  • Left turn on Key Bridge
  • Enter Virginia on Key Bridge
  • Right turn onto George Washington Memorial Parkway ramp
  • North on GW Parkway in right northbound lane

Rest Stop at second scenic overview

  • Turnaround just before Chain Bridge exit
  • Southbound on GW Parkway in center northbound lane
  • Exit GWP on what is normally the on-ramp from the Key Bridge.
  • Straight on N. Lynn Street
  • Left turn on Wilson Blvd.
  • Continue straight on Jefferson Davis Hwy, Hwy 110 in northbound lanes
  • Right turn on Marshall Drive
  • Circle Marine Corps Memorial Iwo Jima Memorial

Rest Stop adjacent to the Netherlands Carillon

  • Return to Hwy 110 southbound in northbound lanes Arlington Cemetery
  • Right on turn Washington Blvd, Hwy 27 the Pentagon
  • Exit Hwy 27 on to Columbia Pike
  • Circle Air Force Memorial Air Force Memorial
  • Return to Hwy 110 southbound via Columbia Pike and Washington Blvd.
  • Continue southbound on Hwy 110 in the northbound lanes
  • Right turn on ramp to I-395
  • U-turn on to Army Navy Drive
  • Left turn on 12th Street S
  • Right turn on Crystal Drive, southbound

Finish:

  • Crystal Drive at 20th Street Arlington County /Crystal City Finish Line Festival

The Metropolitan Police Department always advises drivers to pay attention when operating any motor vehicle.  Motorists are also urged to exercise caution when traveling in the area of any special events due to potential heavy pedestrian traffic. Unexpected changes are always possible in such closures based upon unanticipated or prevailing conditions.
