Traffic Advisory for 2009 5K Race/Walk and Festival for World Peace

This is to advise the public that from 3:30 am until approximately 5:00 pm on Saturday, October 24, 2009, streets in the downtown area of Washington, DC will be affected by the 2009 Sister Cities International 5K Race/Walk & Festival for World Peace.   The Race/Walk will begin at 9:00 am; the Festival for World Peace will take place between 2:00 pm and 5:00 pm at 21st Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, NW.  The five kilometer race and walk will start and end at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and 21st Street, NW and proceed along the following route:

 

Runners/walkers will travel east and then

• Turn right on 19th Street, NW

• Turn right on Constitution Avenue, NW

• Turn right on 21st Street, NW

• Turn left on Virginia Avenue, NW

• Turn right at F Street, NW

• Turn right at 21st Street, NW

• Turn left on E Street, NW

• Turn right on 20th Street, NW

• Turn right on Virginia Avenue, NW

• Turn left onto 21st Street, NW

• Turn left on Constitution Avenue, NW

• Turn left on 19th Street, NW, heading north

• Turn left on I Street, NW

• Turn left on 20th Street, NW

• Turn right on Pennsylvania Avenue, NW

• Finish Line: Intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and 21st Street, NW

In accordance with events such as this, the Metropolitan Police Department and the DC Department of Transportation urges motorists who may be in the area of this event to exercise extreme caution when driving to ensure the safety of race participants and spectators.
