The Metropolitan Police Department would like to inform the public of the Walk for Hope that is scheduled to be held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 and the Stop the Silence 8K Race which is scheduled for Sunday, April 29, 2012.  In order to facilitate these events, there will be no vehicular traffic allowed along the routes.

Saturday, April 28, 2012-Walk for Hope

The following streets will begin closing down at 10:00 pm Friday, April 27^th and will reopen on Saturday, April 28^th at 6:00 pm

• The walk will form on 3^rd Street between Pennsylvania Avenue and Jefferson Drive, NW
• East on Pennsylvania Avenue to 1^st Street, NW
• North on 1^st Street to Louisiana Avenue, NW
• North on Louisiana Avenue to Columbus Circle
• East on Columbus Circle to 1^st Street, NE
• South on 1^st Street to D Street, NE
• East on D Street to 3^rd Street, NE
• South on 3^rd Street, NE to South Carolina Avenue, SE
• West on South Carolina Avenue to 1^st Street, NE
• North on 1^st Street to E Street, NE
• West on E Street to Washington Avenue, SW
• North on 1^st Street to Independence Avenue, SW
• West on Independence Avenue to 3^rd Street, SE
• North on 3^rd Street to Pennsylvania Ave, NW to the finish where they will disband

Sunday, April 29, 2012-Stop the Silence 8K

The following streets will begin closing down on Sunday April 29^th at 5:00 am and reopen at 12:15 pm

• Race will form on Pennsylvania Avenue, between 12^th and 14^th Streets, NW
• East on Pennsylvania to Constitution Avenue, NW
• East on Constitution Avenue to Louisiana Avenue to D Street, NW
• East on D Street to 1^st Street, NE
• North on 1^st Street where they will make a U turn at Columbus Circle, NE
• South on 1^st Street to Constitution Avenue, NE where they will make a U turn
• North on 1^st Street to D Street, NE
• West on D Street to Louisiana Avenue, NW
• Southwest on Louisiana Avenue to Constitution Avenue, NW
• West on Constitution Avenue to 3^rd Street, NW
• South on 3^rd Street to Independence Avenue, SW
• East on Independence Avenue to 2^nd Street, SW
• South on 2^nd Street to E Street, SW
• West on E street to 3^rd Street, SW
• North on 3^rd Street to Independence Avenue, SW
• West on Independence Avenue to 7^th Street, SW where they will make a U turn
• East on Independence Avenue to 3^rd Street, SW
• North on 3^rd Street to Pennsylvania Avenue to 10^th Street, NW
• South on 10^th Street, NW where they will turn around at the second median strip
• North on 10^th Street to Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
• West on Pennsylvania Avenue, NW to the finish where they will disband.

All street closures and listed times are subject to change based upon prevailing or unexpected conditions.

Motorists could encounter possible delays if operating in the vicinity of these events and may wish to consider alternative routes.  The Metropolitan Police Department and the D.C. Department of Transportation also wish to remind motorists in the vicinity of these events to proceed with caution as increased pedestrian traffic can be anticipated.
