Street Closures for Ceremony to Unveil Plaque in Honor of Metro Crash Victims

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) and the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) are advising the public about scheduled street closures for the ceremony to unveil a plaque in honor of the victims of the 2009 Metro train crash. The ceremony is scheduled for this Friday, June 22, at 11 am, near the site of the crash.

The New Hampshire Avenue/Charles Langley Bridge will be closed to all vehicular traffic from 10 am to 1 pm on Friday to accommodate the memorial plaque unveiling ceremony.

The bridge will remain open to bike and pedestrian traffic.

Curbside parking on the 5700 block 1st NE between McDonald and Madison will be restricted between 8 am and 2 pm.

Traffic coming from Maryland into the District on New Hampshire Avenue will be detoured on the following route:

  • Right on Peabody Street, NE
  • Right on Chillum Place, NE
  • Left on Kansas Avenue, NE
  •  Left on Blair Road, NE
  •  Left on Madison Street, NE
  •  Right to return to New Hampshire Avenue, NE

ยท           Traffic outbound on New Hampshire Avenue will follow the same detour in reverse.

Motorists are encouraged to follow the detour signs and directions of law enforcement and traffic control personnel. Drivers are also advised to consider alternate routes to avoid the road closure.
