August 9, 2005: The Greater Chesapeake & Potomac Region of the American Red Cross is holding a press conference to address the summer blood shortage and the continued need for blood donors during this critical time. Blood shortages can only be avoided by recruiting enough blood donors to meet the demand.

Metropolitan Police Department Chief Charles Ramsey will serve as the keynote speaker for this event. Also speaking to serve as true testaments to the need for blood donors will be John Yates, a survivor of the 9/11/01 terrorist attack on the Pentagon, and Anna Grossnickle, who received countless blood transfusions following a near fatal car accident in February 2004. Representing the Washington DC Department of Health will be Dr. Gregg Pane.
