Violent Crimes Branch Begins Redistributing Homicide Fliers for Unsolved Cases

On February 17, 2006, the Metropolitan Police Department's Violent Crimes Branch initiated an additional procedure in its continuing efforts to solve homicides. The Violent Crimes Branch has begun re-canvassing areas where homicides were committed in 2004 and 2005. During the re-canvassing, officers are also handing out fliers with information about the homicide.

Each week the Violent Crimes Branch will identify at least five unsolved cases from 2004 and five from 2005 beginning from January 1 of each year. Investigators will then respond to the areas involved to pass out fliers and seek the community's assistance.  One of the cases to be highlighted this evening involves the fatal shooting of James Samuel Brown, which occurred at approximately 11:28 pm, on January 23, 2005, in the 5000 block of Benning Road, SE.

Members of the Violent Crimes Branch and the Sixth District will be distributing fliers tonight.
