Recruit and Reserve Officer Graduation: April 14, 2006

The Metropolitan Police Department's Maurice T. Turner Jr., Institute of Police Science will conduct a graduation ceremony Friday afternoon for classes of both recruit and Reserve officers.  Chief of Police Charles H. Ramsey will administer the oath of office to the newest members of the MPDC.

Recruit Class 2005-5 includes 17 officers who recently completed approximately 24 weeks of recruit training.  The officers are being assigned to neighborhood patrols in various Police Service Areas in the District.

Reserve Class 2005-1 includes 30 citizen volunteers who will devote a minumum of 16 hours a month to support MPDC operations through a variety of assignments. The "Level II" Reserve Officers are uniformed members of the MPDC, but they do not carry firearms.  Now in its 56th year, the Police Reserve Corps provides a dedicated group of citizen volunteers to assist the MPDC in carrying out its mission.

Members of the news media are invited to attend the gradutation ceremony.
