At
approximately 6:00 P.M. on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 26, 2000,
police were called to a business office located on the grounds of the
National Zoo to investigate the report of a robbery. On arrival, they
discovered two men wearing masks robbed the office. One suspect is described
as a black male, approximately 6 feet tall, 190 pounds. He was wearing
a sweatshirt, a ski mask and a baseball cap. He was also armed with a
dark colored handgun. The second suspect is described as a black male,
approximately 6 feet tall, 220 pounds, wearing all dark clothes and carrying
a dark colored backpack.
The men apparently walked into the office and subdued the three employees
inside. An employee was forced to open the safe. The suspects obtained
an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene.
An investigation of the robbery by members of the Metropolitan Police
Department's Second District and Officers from the National Zoo Police
is continuing. Anyone with information about this robbery is urged to
