At approximately 4:49 am, on Friday, July 7, 2006, Metropolitan Police were called to the rear of 2516 Burns Street, SE, for the report of a man down. Upon arrival, officers located 24-year-old Jason Rasheed Lyons, of the 1400 block of 34th Street, SE, behind a dumpster and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia and pronounced dead.
A second male victim in this incident, who sustained a gunshot wound to the chest, was located a short time later in the 2600 block of Minnesota Avenue, SE. He was transported to an area hospital and admitted in critical condition. His identity is being withheld because he is a potential witness in the case.
The above case was closed on Tuesday, October 31, 2006, with the arrest of 46-year-old Leonard Wood, of the 2900 block of Nelson Place, SE. He was charged with Second Degree Murder.
