At approximately 3:00 am, on Thursday, January 5, 2006, Metropolitan Police responded to the 400 block of 37th Street, SE, for the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers located 26-year-old Anthony Knight, of the 600 block of Edgewood Street, NE, lying in front of a residence in the 400 block of 37th Street, SE. He was suffering from apparent multiple gunshot wounds to the body and head. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the scene but found no signs consistent with life. The victim was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia and pronounced dead.
Also located at the scene were a 26-year-old male, who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the shoulder, and a 31-year-old male, who was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to the back and shoulder. Both men were taken to an area hospital and admitted. A 15-year-old male was taken to an area hospital by private vehicle and admitted with an apparent gunshot wound to the foot. The names of the injured males are being withheld because they are considered witnesses at this time.
This homicide was closed on Tuesday, November 14, 2006, with the arrest of 25-year-old Byron Holmes, of the 1700 block of Independence Avenue, SE. He was charged with Murder One While Armed.
