Seventh Annual MPDC Awards Ceremony To Honor Outstanding Police Officers, Civilian Employees, Residents
Public is invited to December 5 event at DAR Constitution Hall

For the seventh year in a row, the Metropolitan Police Department will honor outstanding police officers, civilian employees, other agency partners and community members who have helped to make DC neighborhoods safer over the past year. These individuals will be honored during the Department's Annual Awards Ceremony on Tuesday evening, December 5, 2006, at DAR Constitutional Hall in Northwest. The public is invited to attend this free event.

 

Chief of Police Charles H. Ramsey and other DC leaders will present a series of awards, including the Medal of Honor, for exceptional bravery, the Medal of Valor, for heroism, and the Lifesaving Medal. The MPDC's Officer of the Year, Detective of the Year, civilian Employee of the Year, Reserve Officer of the Year and Crossing Guards of the Year will also be honored during the ceremony.

 

Other awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, for outstanding contributions, and the Achievement Medal, for individual acts of skill or bravery. In addition, the Chief of Police Special Award will be presented to community members who have helped to enhance neighborhood safety, and the Award of Merit will be given to other organizations or individuals who have worked closely with the MPDC to fight crime and advance community policing.
