At approximately 8:15 on the morning of Monday, December 18, 2006, a 59-year-old woman was attacked by two men while at 45th Street and Windom Place, NW. One subject held her while the other assaulted her in the face with a stun gun in an attempt to rob her. It was at this time that 38-year-old Timothy Ring heard the woman’s screams and rushed to her aid as both subjects fled. Mr. Ring checked on the woman’s welfare and the, with disregard for his won safety, pursued both subjects on his scooter. He stopped on subject and managed to obtain the suspects identity before pursuing the second subject whom he cornered at 42nd and Brandywine Streets, NW. He flagged down an officer who placed the suspect under arrest. Another unidentified citizen advised the officer that the second suspect had tossed an item into some ivy. The officer subsequently recovered a stun gun. The first suspect managed to make good his escape, but is known to police. The second suspect was charged with Simple Assault and Possession of a Prohibited Weapon/Stun Gun.
Mayor Adrian Fenty and Acting Chief of Police Cathy Lanier will be presenting Mr. Ring with an award at the department’s Crime Briefing tomorrow. Members of the media are invited to attend:
