Homicide in the 2900 block of Martin Luther King Avenue, SE

At approximately 3:45 pm on Tuesday, January 9, 2007, police responded to Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital, located at 2700 Martin Luther King Ave., SE for the report of an unconscious person.  An adult male was taken to Greater Southeast Community Hospital and pronounced dead.  He is identified as 39 year-old Mark Harris of the above address.

On Tuesday, January 30, 2007, the Office of the DC Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death due to cardiopulmonary arrest during an episode of excited delirium and the manner of death a homicide.  The incident apparently occurred when a member of the Saint Elizabeth’s staff reportedly restrained Mr. Harris when he allegedly assaulted the staff member.

The name of the staff member is being withheld at this time because no charges have been placed. Upon completion of the investigation, the facts will be presented to the United States Attorney’s Office to determine if any charge(s) will be placed.
