At approximately 5:34 pm, on Saturday, February 3, 2007, 58-year-old Gary Scott Phillips, of the 200 block of Gallatin Street, NW, was attempting to cross the street in the 5000 block of New Hampshire Avenue, NW. It was at this time that a bicycle being operated by Ramon Alberto Chavez, of the 2600 block of Sherman Avenue, NW, struck Mr. Phillips.

He was taken to the Washington Hospital Center’s MedStar Unit and pronounced dead. Mr. Chavez sustained a laceration to the head and was taken to the Washington Hospital Center’s MedStar Unit and admitted in stable condition  

This case is under investigation by members of the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash investigations Unit.
