Pedestrian Fatality on Sargent Road, NE

At approximately 8 am this morning, Friday, February 9, 2007, a 1999 Jeep Cherokee while at the intersection of Sargent Road and Emerson Street, NE struck six-year-old J’lin Tyler, of the 1200 block of Emerson Street, NE. He was taken to the Children’s National Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 8:40 am.

The accident occurred when the operator of the Jeep Cherokee, which was traveling southbound in the 4900 block of Sargent Road, NE, struck J’lin Tyler as the vehicle approached Emerson Street.  At the time, J’lin was on his way to school and was crossing the street at that location.

The operator of the Cherokee, who has been identified as 54-year-old Beverly Ellis, of the 7200 block of 16th Avenue in Takoma Park, Maryland, was taken to an area hospital where she was treated for a medical condition apparently not related to the accident and released.

No charges have been placed pending further investigation by members of the department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit.
