At approximately 10:10, Friday, February 9, 2007, a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero truck being operated by 26-year-old Brima Pessima, of the 400 block of Lamont Street, NW, was apparently driving at a high rate of speed southbound on Georgia Avenue, NW. The Montero allegedly went through a red-light at the intersection of Georgia and Missouri Avenues, NW, and struck a 1996 Mazda 626 being driven by 33-year-old Santos Villatoro-Medrano, of the 6200 block of Addison Road in Capitol Heights, Maryland, traveling northbound on Georgia Avenue, NW.
Mr. Pessima was taken to Providence Hospital with reported minor injuries. Mr. Villatoro-Medrano was transported to the Washington Hospital Center’s MedStar Unit and admitted in serious condition.
Brima Pessima has been charged with Aggravated Assault. The case is under investigation by members of the department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit.
Update, 2/12/07
On Sunday, February 11, 2007, 33-year-old Santos Villatoro-Medrano died as a result of his injuries. Subsequently, 26-year-old Brima Pessima has now been charged with Manslaughter.
