On Sunday, February 18, 2007, at approximately 1:36 pm, an off-duty Metropolitan police officer, who is 42-years-old and has been with the department for over 20 years, had just exited his vehicle and was walking up to a residence in the 1800 block of Valley Terrace, SE, when two suspects, one armed with a handgun, walked up to him and demanded his money and car keys. The officer complied with the suspect’s demands and then announced he was a police officer when one of the suspects allegedly pointed his gun at the officer forcing him to fire his weapon striking one of the two suspects in the left thigh and buttocks. A handgun was recovered on the scene. The second suspect fled in the officer’s private vehicle which was located in Northeast an hour later.
The suspect was transported to an area hospital with apparent non-lift threatening injuries. He has been identified as a 16-year-old District juvenile. He is currently charged with Armed Robbery.
The officer’s identity is being withheld at this time because he is considered a victim/witness in this case.
The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $10,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any robbery committed in the District of Columbia.
