Two Die in Traffic Fatality in the 2300 Block of Pennsylvania Avenue, SE

The Major Crash Investigations Unit of the Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding a multiple car accident which occurred at approximately 6:35 pm on Friday, March 9, 2007,  in the 2300 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, SE. A preliminary investigation into this accident reveals that a 2003 Subaru Forester was traveling eastbound on Pennsylvania Avenue, SE, when the operator of that vehicle may have suffered some type of medical emergency. As a result the operator apparently lost control of the vehicle causing it to strike a 2001 Ford Pick-up Truck which subsequently struck a Honda Civic. The Subaru then reportedly proceeded to leave the roadway resulting in the passenger being ejected before re-entering the roadway and striking a Dodge Neon before coming to a rest.

The operator of the vehicle who has been identified as 72-year-old Edna Johnson of the 8000 block of Sheriff Road in Landover, Maryland was transported to George Washington University Hospital where she was pronounced dead.   The passenger of the vehicle who has been identified as 83-year-old Hattie Myles of the 900 block of G Street, NE, was transported to the Washington Hospital Center’s MedStar Unit where she was also pronounced dead. Three other victims from the other vehicles involved in this accident were transported to area hospitals for treatment of what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

It should be noted that the circumstances surrounding this accident remain under investigation by members from the department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit.
