Shooting at 3661 Georgia Avenue, NW

At approximately 10:15 on the morning of Monday, March 26, 2007, an unidentified black male entered the Amanuel Market located at 3661 Georgia Avenue, NW.  While inside, he was approached by a lone male who had entered the store moments earlier.  The two men then reportedly became involved in some type of conversation.  It was at this time that the second man produced a handgun and shot the unidentified male in the face before fleeing.  The wounded man was taken to an area hospital and admitted in critical condition.  His identity is unknown at this time.

The suspect in this case is only described as an adult black male last seen wearing a dark colored baseball cap, dark pants and dark jacket.  He was seen fleeing in a vehicle believed to be an early model dark colored four door Mercury.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099 or the department’s Crime Solvers Unit at 1-800-673-2777.  All calls to Crime Solvers are confidential.  If a caller provides information through Crime Solvers that leads to an arrest and indictment, he/she will be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.

NOTE: A surveillance tape from the store of the incident, and a still photograph of the alleged suspect standing next to the vehicle in which he fled, is available from WUSA-TV. The still photograph of the suspect vehicle was obtained from the MPD CCTV Crime Camera located at georgia and New Hampshire Avenues, NW.

Update, 3/28/07
