On
Thursday, November 23, 2000, at approximately 4:26 p.m., police and DCFD
emergency medical technicians responded to the 700 block of 58th Street,
NE for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they located four males
suffering from gunshot wounds.
One of the victims, identified as 20-year-old Chason Haynnie, of
the 1400 block of Nova Avenue in Capitol Heights, Maryland, was transported
to Prince George's County General Hospital where he was pronounced dead
at 5:15 p.m. The other three victims were treated at area hospitals for
apparently non-life-threatening injuries. Only one of the three survivors
was admitted.
Investigation into the incident reveals that the victims received their
wounds when the occupant(s) of a dark colored motor vehicle, possibly
a sport utility vehicle, opened fire on their auto, which was travelling
northbound in the 700 block of 58th Street, stopped at a traffic signal
light. The suspect vehicle sped away immediately following the shooting.
The case is currently under investigation by detectives assigned to the
department's Sixth District .
