Homicide Third Street & Florida Avenue, NW

At approximately 11:40 last night, Tuesday, November 28, 2000, officers from the Third District responded to Third Street and Florida Avenue, N.W. for the report of a man down. Upon arrival they located 29-year-old Michael Eugene Caviness, of the 3900 block of 8th Street, N.W., suffering from apparent multiple stab wounds to the body. He was taken to Howard University Hospital and pronounced dead at 12:13 a.m.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Mr. Caviness became involved in an altercation with possibly as many as three men. During the altercation at least one of the men reportedly stabbed Mr. Caviness. All three men fled in a vehicle described as a late model green four door Toyota Camry.

The case is currently under investigation by members of the Third District . Anyone with information about this case is asked to call detectives at 202/673-6914 or the department's Crime Solvers Unit at 1-800-673-2777.

The department currently offers a TEN THOUSAND DOLLAR REWARD to anyone who provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any murder committed in the District.
