Hit-and-Run Traffic Fatality at 6th Street and Orleans Place, NE

Crysta SpencerAt approximately 4:15 this afternoon, Monday, April 23, 2007, a six-year-old female was reportedly crossing 6th Street, NE, in the middle of the block near Orleans Place, NE. It was at this time that she was struck by a vehicle that failed to stop and fled the scene. The child was taken to the Children’s National Medical Center and pronounced dead at 5 pm.  She is identified as six-year-old Crysta Marie Spencer of the 1100 block of 6th Street, NE.    

The striking vehicle is described as a large green sports utility vehicle with tinted windows, possibly bearing unknown Maryland tags with possible damage to the front end.

The case is currently under investigation by members of the department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099 or the department’s Crime Solvers Unit at 1-800-673-2777.  All calls to Crime Solvers are confidential.  If a caller provides information through Crime Solvers that leads to an arrest and indictment he/she will be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.

Update, 4/25/07
The department is now offering a reward of up to $10,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and coviction of the person(s) responsible for this fatal hit-and-run.  Anyone with information is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099.
