Reward Offered in Fatal Hit-and-Run 6th Street and Orleans Place, NE

Crysta SpencerAt approximately 4:15 on the afternoon of Monday, April 23, 2007, 6-year-old Crysta Spencer, of the 1100 block of 6th Street, NE, was struck by a vehicle while crossing 6th Street, NE near Orleans Place, NE.  She was taken to the Children’s National Medical Center and pronounced dead at 5 pm.

The vehicle failed to stop and fled the scene.  It is described as a large green sports utility vehicle with tinted windows, possibly bearing unknown Maryland tags with possible damage to the front end.

Today, Mayor Andrian M. Fenty, joined by Chief of Police Cathy L. Lanier, announced that the Metropolitan Police Department is now offering a reward of up to $10,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for this fatal hit and run. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099.

Chief Cathy L. Lanier noted, “We, as a community, must work together to protect our children and our department will do all it can to bring this case to closure.  I still urge the driver to do the right thing and come forward.”
