Fire Death at 3449 Minnesota Avenue, SE

On Saturday, April 28, 2007, at approximately 2:53 am, D.C. Fire Department personnel and police responded to a private home located at 3449 Minnesota Avenue, SE for the report of a fire. Upon extinguishing the blaze, firefighters located the body of 5-year-old Asia Sutton in a second floor bedroom.  Subsequently she was transported to the Office of the D.C. Medical Examiner where she was officially pronounced dead.

 

Four other occupants of the residence were transported to area hospitals for treatment of smoke inhalation or non-life-threatening burns.

 

This incident is currently under investigation by members of the D.C. Arson and Explosives Task Force, which is composed of members of the D.C. Fire Department, the Metropolitan Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives.
