Suspect Arrested for Two Robberies in the First District

At approximately 9:11 this morning, Friday, May 25, 2007, a man was near his home in the 400 block of Kentucky Avenue, SE, when he was approached by a lone male armed with a handgun.  The gunman forced the individual into the home and robbed him of his cell phone and keys before fleeing.  At approximately 9:14 this morning, Friday, May 25, 2007, a man walking in the 1500 block of Kentucky Avenue, SE, was robbed of his cell phone and cash by a lone male armed with a handgun. No injuries were reported in either robbery.

First District officers immediately responded to the scenes and implemented the district’s Robbery Response Plan.  The suspect in this case was suspected of fleeing the area by boarding a Metro bus.  Portions of the response plan included officers following the suspected bus, utilizing the services of the department’s air support unit (Falcon One) and determining the location of the bus stop so officers would be waiting.  At approximately 9:25 this morning First District officers, assisted by Seventh District officers, boarded a bus at Martin Luther King, Jr., Avenue and Talbert Street, SE, and arrested a 17-year-old District male juvenile.  His name must be withheld because he is a juvenile.  A loaded semi-automatic handgun was recovered.  The suspect is presently charged with Two Counts of Armed Robbery, One Count of Kidnapping While Armed and Carrying a Pistol Without a License.  The investigation is continuing.
