MPDC To Provide Auto Theft and Safety Information at Washington Auto Show

Visitors to the 59th Annual Washington Auto Show will be able to do more than browse for a new car. They can also get some common-sense advice from experts on how to protect their vehicles from being stolen or broken into.

Representatives of the Metropolitan Police Department's Auto Theft Unit will staff a booth throughout the show, providing visitors with information and advice on preventing both auto theft and theft from auto. They will also be able to warn people about auto theft and insurance fraud scams that cost all motorists.

  • WHAT: MPDC Auto Theft Prevention Booth at 59th Annual Washington Auto Show

  • DATES: December 26, 2000 - January 1, 2001

  • LOCATION: Washington Convention Center, 9th and G Streets, NW
While auto thefts in the District have declined sharply over the last five years, including a 6 percent drop during the year 2000, more than 6,000 vehicles are stolen each year in the city.

Additional auto theft prevention tips can be found on the MPDC's Web site.
