On
Sunday, January 14, 2001, at approximately 12:20 a.m., Fourth District
officers responded to the alley in the rear of the 1600 block of Varnum
Street, NW to investigate the report of an unconscious person seated inside
of a parked motor vehicle. Upon arrival, they located an adult male bound
suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. DCFD
emergency personnel were then summoned to the scene. They could find no
life signs.
The victim, who has been identified as 29-year-old Daniel Gonzalez,
of the 8100 block of 15th Avenue in Hyattsville, Maryland, was later transported
by morgue wagon to the D.C.
Medical Examiner's Office where he was officially pronounced dead
at 4:25 a.m.
The case is currently under investigation by detectives assigned to the
Metropolitan Police Department's Fourth

The Metropolitan Police Department is currently offering a TEN THOUSAND-DOLLAR
REWARD to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest
and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed
in the District of Columbia.
Update:
Fourth District detectives are requesting assistance from anyone who
may have seen two male running from the alley around 7:30 or 8:30 pm the
night of the shooting. Please call the Fourth District or Crimesolvers
if you observed anything out of the ordinary that may be related to the
case.
