At approximately 10:34 pm, on Saturday, January 27, 2007, Metropolitan Police were called to an apartment building located in the 1500 block of 7^th Street, NW, for the report of an unconscious person. Upon arrival, officers located 29-year-old Deon A. Peoples, of the 1400 block of V Street, NW, lying in the stairwell of 1512 7th Street, NW, suffering from apparent multiple gunshot wounds to the body. Personnel from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia responded to the scene and pronounced him dead.

The case is under investigation by members of the department’s Violent Crimes Branch. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099.

On Friday, July 27, 2007, this case was closed with the arrest of 22-year-old Benjamin Barringer, of the 3900 block of C Street, NW.  He has been charged with Murder One while Armed.
