Apparent Traffic Fatality in the Rear of 5420 Connecticut Avenue, NW (UPDATED)

At approximately 5:20 am, on Sunday, July 29, 2007, police responded to the rear of 5420 Connecticut Avenue, NW, for the report of a woman down. Upon arrival officers located 84-year-old Mary Margeret Gaegler, of the 5400 block of Connecticut Avenue, NW, in an unconscious condition, and suffering from apparent blunt impact trauma injuries.  DC Fire Department emergency medical personnel responded to the scene, but found no signs consistent with life. She was transported to the DC Medical Examiner’s Office and pronounced dead.

 

The case is under investigation by members of the department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit, who are investigating the possibility that Ms. Gaegler may have been the victim of a hit and run.  Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police at (202)-727-9099 or the department’s Crime Solvers Unit at 1-800-673-2777. 

 

All calls to Crime Solvers are confidential.  If a caller provides information through Crime Solvers that leads to an arrest and indictment, he/she will be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.

 

UPDATE 08/24/07:

An additional private reward of up to FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS is now being offered to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the death of Mary Margeret Gaegler. Crime Solvers is also offering a reward of up to ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS to anyone who provides information that leads to an arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for the death of Ms. Gaegler.
