Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier announced the final arrest numbers today as a result of the second All Hands on Deck on July 27th and 28th.
During All Hands on Deck (AHOD), all available sworn MPD personnel were on patrol through out the District, and made a total of 475 arrests – including 116 narcotics related arrests and nearly 40 fugitive arrests.
All Hands on Deck is part of Chief Lanier’s Summer Crime initiative aimed at capping traditional summer crime trends by putting more officers on patrol and engaging them in one-on-one interactions with residents.
“Good police work, requires that every officer interact with the residents of the communities they are assigned to protect. The Department will continue to do all it can to provide the highest quality of service possible to our citizens,” said Chief Lanier. “The second All Hands on Deck was a success, thanks to the support of residents and the dedication and hard work of my officers.”
During the second AHOD, all officers were required to work an eight hour tour of duty. The Department did not incur overtime costs for officers. They were given alternative days off to ensure every available officer was on patrol on July 27th and 28th.
