Suspect Arrested in Hit-and-Run in the 400 Block of Sheridan Street, NW

At approximately 3:49 pm on Friday, August 31, 2007, a Dodge Stratus reportedly traveling eastbound in the 400 block of Sheridan Street, NW, mounted the sidewalk and subsequently struck three pedestrians.  Following the accident, the occupants of the striking vehicle, described as four black males, abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.

The pedestrians involved in this accident, a 22-year-old female, a 45-year-old female and a 10-year-old female were transported to area hospitals suffering from serious but apparent non-life threatening injuries. Their identities are being withheld at this time because they are considered witnesses in this case.   

A subsequent investigation determined that the striking vehicle had been reported stolen at approximately 12:00 this afternoon from the 1600 block of Tamarack Street, NW.  One of the suspects in this case was apprehended a short distance away from the scene of the accident. He has been identified as 18-year-old Cornell Donald Harris of the 100 block of Franklin Street, NE.

He has been charged with Leaving after Colliding and Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle.

A Fourth District Officer responding to assist in the arrest of the apprehended suspect was involved in an accident at 4th and Upshur Streets, NW.  She was transported to an area hospital for treatment of apparent minor injuries.
