At approximately 11:55 on the night of Saturday, September 1, 2007, police were called to the intersection of Savannah Street and Ridgecrest Court, SE, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival they located a man side of a vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. Subsequently the victim, identified as 36-year-old Ling Mao, whose last known address was in the 10000 block of Elgin Circle in Bowie, Maryland, was transported to the Washington Hospital Center’s MedSTAR Unit where he was pronounced dead.
On Friday, September 28, 2007, at approximately 7:00 pm, members of the Metropolitan Police Department assigned to the Washington Metropolitan Joint Fugitive Task Force took into custody 23-year-old Thomas Kavell, of 10000 block of Glen Way in Fort Washington, Maryland, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant charging First Degree Felony Murder while Armed in connection with the death of Ling Mao. Kavell waived extradition, and was transported from the courthouse in Upper Marlboro, Maryland to the Violent Crimes Branch for booking.
