District of Columbia Announces Streets to be Closed During NATO 50th Anniversary Summit

Detailed information about the Summit available through the US Information Agency

The District of Columbia has announced street closures that will be in effect during the upcoming NATO 50th Anniversary Summit. Closures will be in effect from Thursday, April 22 at 8 pm until 11:59 pm on Sunday, April 25.

The city's major tourist sites, including the most popular Smithsonian museums, will remain open throughout the summit. However, a number of adjustments to local traffic patterns are necessary to facilitate the Summit. Travelers are advised to take public transportation into and around the city since many downtown streets will be closed to vehicles. Persons needing to travel near the Summit's center, at Federal Triangle, and near downtown areas should allow extra travel time.

When using public transportation, visitors should keep in mind that the Federal Triangle Metro stop will be closed from April 23 to April 25.

A number of streets in the downtown Federal Triangle area of the District will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic by the general public beginning Thursday evening, April 22, at 8:00 pm until Sunday night, April 25, at 11:59 pm.

Travelers crossing from Virginia into the District of Columbia via the Theodore Roosevelt and Arlington Memorial bridges should expect heavy traffic congestion.

Street closures are subject to change. In addition some streets outside the area may need to be closed temporarily to support the movement of digataries and other Summit related activities. For updates on road closures and traffic conditions throughout the summit, contact the Emergency Management Agency, 24 hours a day, 202-832-4357.
