Metropolitan Police are investigating the shooting death of a woman who was found in an alley Thursday, November 1, 2007 in the rear of the 900 block of 12th Street, NE.
At approximately 4:10 pm Thursday police and D.C. Fire Department emergency medical personnel responded to a report of an unconscious person in an alley. They discovered a woman who has been identified as 59-year-old Alberta Dunton, of no fixed address. She was transported to Howard University Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 5:07 pm.
On Friday, November 2, 2007, an autopsy was performed at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of the District of Columbia. The cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound to the area of the right armpit and the manner of death ruled a homicide.
The case is currently under investigation by detectives assigned to the department’s Violent Crimes Branch. Anyone who has information regarding this case is asked to call 202-727-9099.
