The Metropolitan Police Department, Councilmember Harry “Tommy” Thomas, Jr., the World Missions Extension Center, GRACE Community Church, and McLean Bible Church will host a Thanksgiving Basket Give-Away Rally on Saturday, November 17, 2007 at 10 a.m. at the World Missions for Christ Church at 1720 First Street, NW.
“At this time of year, it is important that we be reflective, give thanks and not take anything for granted,” said Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier. “It is also important that we share with those who are less fortunate. A Thanksgiving basket is a small gesture to remind families that they are not forgotten and that there are others who care about them during this festive season.”
The rally is expected to draw more than 1,000 families, who will receive Thanksgiving turkey baskets. Parents will also have an opportunity to register their children for gifts for the upcoming holidays.
“This is the season for giving, and our clergy and members of the law enforcement community are showing their continued support of those who are most in need,” said Councilman Harry Thomas, Jr. “As a councilmember, any support that I can provide is a small token of my appreciation. I am grateful for their support, and for their willingness to reach out to the residents of the District in a way that will make this holiday a special one for so many.”
