Pedestrian Fatality in the 2600 block of 14th Street, NW

At approximately 5:22 this morning, November 30, 2007, an adult male was reportedly crossing the street in the 2600 block of 14th Street, NW, when he was struck by a 1994 Acura Legend traveling northbound in the block. The pedestrian who has been identified as 26-year-old Francis Joseph Ryan of the 2700 block of Sherman Avenue, NW, was transported to the Washington Hospital Center’s MedStar Unit and pronounced dead at 5:51 am.

The operator of the Acura, identified as Laurence Panton of the 7200 block of Alaska Avenue, NW, was apparently uninjured as a result of this accident.

A preliminary investigation into this accident reveals that Mr. Ryan may not have been crossing the street in a marked crosswalk area. At this time no charges have been placed in this case which remains under investigation by members of the department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit.
