Driver Arrested in Southern Avenue Pedestrian Fatality

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit on Tuesday announced a 13-year-old driver has been arrested in connection with the pedestrian fatality which killed 18-year-old Darrnita Byrd.   

 

Detectives charged a 13-year old District male with Second Degree Murder, Leaving after Colliding, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle and Not Having a  D.C. Operator’s Permit. The juvenile was charged at the department’s Youth Investigations Branch at approximately 6:50 PM. His name is being withheld because of his age.   

 

Ms. Byrd was killed at approximately 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 1, 2007, when she was struck by a stolen vehicle while attempting to cross the street in the 800 block of Southern Avenue, SE.
