Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier announced the results of a Gun Amnesty Program that was conducted Saturday, December 15, 2007 at three locations in the District of Columbia. The Gun Amnesty Program, which is a part of the Metropolitan Police Department’s commitment to reducing gun violence in the District, offered an opportunity for people to turn in their weapons to authorities without fear of prosecution.
Participating locations included the Shiloh Baptist Church located at 1510 9th Street, NW, (located within the Third Police District), the Holy Christian House of Praise located at 5110 Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue, NE, (located within the Sixth Police District) and the Union Temple Baptist Church located at 1225 W Street, SE (located within the Seventh Police District)
During the program which began at 8 AM and ended at 4 PM, a total of 279 total guns were turned in.
The total numbers broken down by participating locations were as follows:

51 guns turned in (Seventh District Location)
The total amount paid for turn-ins under this program was $14,450.
