At approximately 8:45 PM Monday, December 17, 2007, 25-year-old Antonio Jerome Walker, of the 200 block of Valley Avenue, SE, was operating a 1997 Nissan Maxima northbound on Interstate 295.  Mr. Walker failed to negotiate the curve leading to the exit ramp onto westbound Benning Road, NE. The vehicle struck a guard rail and Mr. Walker was ejected. He was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and pronounced dead at 11 PM.
 
A preliminary investigation into this accident reveals that high rate of speed and failure to wear a seatbelt were the contributing factors.

The case is under investigation by members of the department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit.
