Fatal Shooting on Florida Avenue, NW

At approximately 4:00 pm on Sunday, June 20, 1999, units from the Third District responded to the 1400 block of Florida Avenue, NW for the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, units located two adult males suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

The first victim has been identified as 44-year-old Howard Diggs of the 4900 block of F Street, SE. Mr. Diggs, who suffered from an apparent gunshot wound to the head, was transported to the Washington Hospital Center’s MedStar Unit where he was pronounced dead at 4:48 pm. The second victim in this case suffered from apparent gunshot wounds to the jaw and left shoulder and was transported to a local hospital where he was admitted in serious but stable condition. His name is being withheld at this time due to the fact that he is a witness in this case.
