On Thursday, December 20, 2007, Darius McKeever, of the 4200 block of East Capitol Street, SE, was arrested in connection with the murder of Raymond Carpenter. Mr. McKeever has been charged with Second Degree Murder.

Raymond Carpenter was the lead suspect in the October 25 double homicide of 30-year-old Turkessa Branch and 4-year-old Darius Branch (pictured) in the 3600 block of Ely Place, SE. That case was closed administratively by the death of Mr. Carpenter.

Mr. Carpenter was also the suspect in the September 29, 2007, homicide of David Best, which occurred in the 4800 block Alabama Avenue, SE. That case was also closed administratively by the death his death.

On Saturday, November 17, 2007, at approximately 4:00 AM, police and DC Fire Department emergency medical personnel responded to the 3100 block of Buena Vista Terrace, SE, for the report of a shooting.  Upon arrival, they located a male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds lying in front of 3134 Buena Vista Terrace, SE. Emergency medical personnel could find no life signs.

The victim, who has been identified as 28-year-old Raymond Carpenter, of the 4200 block of H Street, SE, was later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia where he was officially pronounced dead.
