At approximately 9:30 am on Thursday, January 10, 2007, a male dressed in a Brinks type armored car guard uniform walked into the Wachovia Bank located at 801 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW and told the manager he was there for a pick up. The suspect was given a significant amount of US currency and was last seen walking out of the bank.
At approximately 4 pm that same day the real Brinks armored car guard arrived at the Wachovia Bank and was told that his partner had already made the pick up. This bank theft was not realized until the guard returned to the office and asked the security manager if someone else had authorization for the pick up at this bank.
The case is under investigation by members of the Metropolitan Police Department/FBI Robbery Task Force and detectives assigned to the First District. Anyone with information about this theft or who may know the identity or whereabouts of the suspect is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099.
