On Sunday, January 27, 2008, the Gun Recovery Unit conducted a search warrant in the 3900 block of 13th Street NW at 11:45 am. Metropolitan Police recovered 10 rifles, four shot guns, four handguns, five pellet guns, three starter pistols, an assortment of ammunition and two body-armor vests.
“Since its inception, the Gun Recovery Unit has done a tremendous job to get guns off the streets,” said Police Chief Cathy L. Lanier. “Less guns mean less victims and less violent crimes committed.”
So far this year, MPD has recovered 227 guns. In 2007, MPD recovered nearly 3,000 guns. The Gun Recovery Unit will continue its operations to remove weapons from District streets.
