The Violent Crimes Branch of the Metropolitan Police Department announced that an arrest has been made in a homicide which occurred on Sunday, February 10, 2008.
At approximately 5:27 am on Sunday, members from the Seventh District responded to a residence located in the 3600 block of 22nd Street, SE, for the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, members located an adult female suffering from an apparent stab wound to the back. The victim was transported by ambulance to the Prince George’s Hospital Center and pronounced dead.
The victim in this case has been identified as 50-year-old Valerie Ballentine of the 3600 block of 22nd Street, SE.
A subsequent investigation by members from the department’s Violent Crimes Branch and the Seventh District resulted in the arrest of Steven Orlando Holman in connection with the death of Valerie Ballentine. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Monday in DC Superior Court. A preliminary investigation into this case reveals that the motive in this offense may have been domestic in nature.
